come to me my vernal muse
we’ll wander the streets in your dark shoes
who needs food when you’ve got cigarettes?
when all you’re left are meager regrets
to lethe’s black waters turn your eyes
she holds all of london’s sighs
whisper them up the open windows
from the streets of stepney to bromley-by-bow
this pool of tears
has grown with the years
more shrouded than a magic mirror
turned saltier than the putrid thames
splattered droplets upon your camera lens
i must amend
all these pains that i have penned
but alas i cannot erase
these words; in base
blood i have painted your face
in vain we’ll pace
wait for lethe’s waters to raise
and wash cleanly from our days
these scribbles of darkest night.
alas they never will.
