Shot Glasses
Police sirens wail past sounding like a sin
blue lights, light up gloomy skies
that weep and cry tears of acid-
carve rivers through concrete
and wear down heroes carved in limestone
whose names longforgotten and covered
by 'Andy Loves Jenny' and 'all coppers are whores'
Lovers dance under broken street lights
and on pavements cracked and pained
as the rain taps a melody on the double glazing
words are stuck in my throat, stolen
-never to return like the dreams of yesterday
or memories sunk in pints of ale
Tales of wanking stories travel across countries
heard throughgroans and laughter
and crap juke box songs
that no one sings along to
-just thrown away like cigarette butts
Memories travel over green felt and
'blackball bottom pocket'
old jokes that still bring laughter
-and a smile to the face
Toilets show signs of sins half forgotten
lager flashbacks and hungover recolections
graphiti in the shitter says
'oops I shat out my soul'
Lifes melodies,stalled.
hidden in brick exposed wood finished bars
Phone conversations make the walls vibrate
and secrets are shouted froom rooftops
by men in military clothes
who lost their spirits in the bottom of a shot glass
